This low density offering from Drakes Pride does carry a few similarities to the Lignum Vitae wooden bowls of old during play. Due to the polished finish of the bowl and the low density material that it’s manufactured with, bowlers find that the Excel bowl tends to increase the length of run – moreso on slow running greens.
Being a low density bowl, the Excel is also a larger size in the hand comparable to other bowls of the same weight – this again mimicks the feel and balance of Lignum to some degree.
We have a selection of coloured mounts available for the Excel, again they are determined by weight of bowl selected. As with all Drakes Pride crown green bowls, they are sold as pairs and have a 2 full bias.
If you’re still a bit confused about the various bowls densities and which is right for you, head on over to our crown green beginner guide. But in a nutshell all it means for this specific bowl is that a low density Excel bowl weighing 2lb 8oz will be the same physical size as a standard 2lb 10oz bowl. Simple, right? A larger bowl in physical size for its weight in other words.
Please note: Due to the polished glossy finish on this bowl, over time the polish on the Excel will start to display signs of wear and tear (just like with Lignum!), so please bear in mind that it may be necessary to have the bowls re-polished on occasion. So please do handle and treat with care.
