The objects of the club are the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for the game of flat green bowls and to encourage and foster the playing of flat green bowls.
The club is an unincorporated not-for-profit organisation and all profits and surpluses are used to improve the club’s facilities.
The club’s six rink grass outdoor bowling green and clubhouse with a bar are situated in Cary Park on the corner of Cary Avenue with Aveland Road, Babbacombe, Torquay and are held on a lease from Torbay Council for 21 years from 1 April 2002. The green is maintained with the help of expert professional contractors.
Weather and maintenance of the green permitting, the green is usually open for play from 10.00 am until dusk from around the middle of April until the end of September.
There are two classes of playing membership, namely: Full and Junior (under age 18), for male and female bowlers. Former playing members, spouses and partners of playing members and others with an interest in the game of bowls may be admitted as Social Members of the club.
The management of the club is vested in a Management committee. There are also Men’s and Ladies’ Section committees.
The club enjoys a full and comprehensive programme of fixtures, for both men and ladies. The Men have three teams playing in the Mid-Devon Bowling League and two teams in the Teignbridge & District Over 55’s League.
The Ladies have three teams in the South Devon Ladies League. We also have a team in the Riviera Mixed Triples League. In addition, there are opportunities to play in club, county and other competitions and friendly matches against touring teams and local clubs.
Each season, the club organises and hosts a Ladies’ Invitation Triples Competition, usually in June and a Men’s Invitation Triples competition, usually in July. These have been suspended for the 2014 season.
We are a friendly club and new members, male or female of any age or ability, are always welcome. Anyone wishing to find out more about the club or how to join the club should contact the General Secretary by using the Email facility provided in the Contact Us section, or phone 01803 526224 to arrange a visit to the club and find out more about membership.
We have coaches in the club who would be happy to offer advice to anyone interested in finding out how the game is played.
