Ebbw Vale Welfare Bowls Club was founded in 1907. Bowling took place at the Drill ground Ebbw Vale. In the early 1930’s they moved to the Welfare Ground which was renamed Eugene Cross Park.
In 2007 we celebrated our Centenary year and held some very special and important games. The club has a ladies team who play in two leagues, one on a Tuesday and the other on a Thursday. The men also play in two leagues on a Saturday and a league on a Wednesday.
Whilst the club has never had a very big membership, we have produced three internationals between 1957 and 1971.
The club would welcome new players of any age, any experience, male or female especially younger players, so if schools or anyone is interested in trying out the game of bowls, it doesn’t matter if you have not played before, please contact the Secretary – Jeff Short on 07870 839653. We can supply all the equipment and coaches to help you out if required.
As well as the league games and competitions mentioned above and internally we also have charitable events throughout the season. In 2008 we raised £1,120.00 for the Alzheimer’s Society and followed that up with £800.00 for the Parkinson’s Society, this year 2010 we will be raising money for the Welsh Air Ambulance.
Also in 2010 the official opening of our new pavilion, which is being shared with R.T.B. Bowls Club, will take place ready for the new season.
