Hykeham Bowls Club

Hykeham Bowls Club

Hykeham Bowls Club is situated at the rear of the Memorial Hall, Newark Rd. North Hykeham. It provides facilities for both competitive and friendly bowls games for its members. Membership is open to all, though priority is given to North and South Hykeham residents.

The club was founded in 1962 and is a constituent member of the Playing Fields Association (PFA) which is a registered charity.

The private green is open from mid-April to mid-September and provides six rinks played in different directions each week. It is frequently used for District and County competitions.

The club is affiliated to the EBA, EBF, EWBA, EWBF and the Lincolnshire branches of these bodies.

The Pavilion

The newly refurbished pavilion now consists of club kitchen, changing rooms, ladies and gents toilets and newly installed toilet for the disabled.

The Green

The bowling surface is a natural grass green of six rinks, equipped for EBA bowling. It is maintained to County standard by the clubs own ground staff.

The Social Club

Direct access exists to the adjacent PFA Social Club to which all members are entitled to join.

The club offers competitive bowling, through afternoon and evening leagues. A varied social bowling programme is also provided.

The club participates in the local EBA fours, and EBF (mixed) leagues, including the City evening, City Afternoon District, Cliff and Trent Valley. The club also enters League Knock Out competitions.

Two kinds of competitions are run: those played to a finish in one day, and those played throughout the season. The one day competitions are a mix of Knock Out and round robins.

The green is a professionally laid Cumberland turf surface, equipped and approved for Bowls England bowling. It is lovingly maintained to County standard by the clubs own ground staff and is a Lincs Women’s Bowling Association County green.

The green can be used for 6 rinks in either direction and in 2008/9 the club replaced the ditches around the green with concrete, funded by grants from Awards for All and Bowls England.
