Palmer Park Bowling Club is a friendly, sociable, mixed bowling club which welcomes new members with or without experience.
The Open Days for visitors on 21 May and 19 June were a great success. Meanwhile, free coaching is available for beginners and improvers on Saturday mornings at 10.00 am for the next few weeks. Also every Monday evening in the season is a Club Night from 6.15pm where everyone, including new bowlers, can enjoy a friendly competition.
The bowling facilities are excellent: a well-maintained green, a smartly appointed Clubhouse with a licenced bar and ladies’ and gentlemen’s changing rooms. The Club is located in Palmer Park, Wokingham Road, Reading, RG6 1LF with easy access and excellent parking faciities. Touring teams are welcome.
There is a full program of internal competitions and mixed, men’s and ladies’ friendly and league matches with local (and not so local) clubs
Affiliated to Bowls England and the Royal County of Berkshire Bowling Association.
Club History
Palmer Park The land for Palmer Park was given to the town in 1889 by the Palmer family, proprietors of the Huntley and Palmer’s biscuit factory. The Palmer Park Bowling Club was founded in 1910 and became a founder member of the now, ‘Royal’ County of Berkshire Bowling Association. The bowling green and clubhouse are leased by Palmer Park Bowling Club which has full responsibility for maintenance.
The green is still in the same location, but the original rudimentary clubhouse facilities have been extensively improved over the years. The latest project was in 2004-2006 when the clubhouse was enlarged and refurbished to a high standard.
